Please read these terms and conditions carefully before accessing and using our website www.cinelandmarks.org operated by the nonprofit organization cinelandmarks e. V.

Your access to and use of our website is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these terms. The terms apply to all visitors, users and contributors who access or use the service. By accessing or using our website you agree to be bound by these terms.

Contributing content

cinelandmarks.org offers the possibility for everyone to contribute their knowledge on cinemas worldwide. It therefore allows users to publish, store, link, share and otherwise make available (“contributors”) certain information, texts, data, images, photographs, or other material ("content").

By submitting any content to cinelandmarks.org, you warrant that either you have created and own the content yourself, you have received the express permission of the owner of the content to submit it to cinelandmarks.org and can provide proof of consent, or the content is already in the public domain.

Limitation of liability and disclaimer

The contributor is responsible for the correctness of the copyright status as well as the correctness of the data and information itself that is published by the contributor. cinelandmarks makes no representations about the reliability, suitability, availability, timelines, and accuracy of the information contained on or obtained through this website for any purpose. It is not responsible for the correctness of data, information and content that is added and published by users.

cinelandmarks.org is not liable for the loss of content or the inaccessibility of the website and its content.

Rules for publishing content

To secure the quality of the website, an editorial team will review and possibly edit and improve any data and information that contributors upload. Nevertheless, editors will only evaluate formal criteria and data or information that is accessible to them. Therefore, contributors to cinelandmarks.org are obliged to upload data and information that is correct to the best of their knowledge. Contributors must provide sources, references and links if they exist and/or if they have based their knowledge upon them. If contributors quote from any source, they must respect and follow common citation rules.

cinelandmarks.org stands for sharing and exchanging knowledge on a public domain basis and the idea of sheer interest for cinema. Therefore, it is not allowed to publish content that serves the purpose of marketing, advertisement, or any other commercial interest in a specific cinema, subject or issue. All content has to seek a neutral, nonprofit, and noncommercial perspective. A subjective, experience-based perspective can be shared as long as it is formulated from a private perspective.

cinelandmarks.org stands for documenting historically, architecturally and curatorially unique cinemas including interdisciplinary forms of cinema and former cinema locations. We refrain from referring to cinemas that are exclusively commercially oriented and lack any distinctive feature. We ask our users as a contributor to respect and follow this principle.

Users and contributors to cinelandmarks.org are obliged to use respectful, non-discriminating, non-insulting and non-harassing language and respect other perspectives. You are prohibited from publishing or transmitting to or from this website any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, or other materials that would violate any civil or criminal law or the rights of others, including laws against copyright infringement.

If you contribute content to cinelandmarks.org, please respect and follow our FAQ-guidelines. They will answer any kind of questions and support you throughout the process. In case you have any further questions, you are welcome to contact us.

Contributing images and photos on cinelandmarks.org

If you contribute a new cinema, it is your duty to provide at least one image/photo of the cinema (or a picture of the place where the cinema previously existed) to make it visually more vivid. If you have any question regarding licensing, please contact us.

Copyright rules and licenses

When contributing photos, images and any kinds of (copyrighted) material, we as a platform and you as a contributor are obliged to respect internationally acclaimed copyright rules. Therefore, only use material for which you yourself hold the copyright or have been given the right by the copyright owner to publish it on this website. To secure this, each picture, image or any other kind of material has to come with information on its copyright status. To make this comprehensible, we offer three different licenses that you as a contributor are obliged to respect and use:

  • CC0: With this license you refrain from any exclusive right of reuse, copying or adapting and follow the idea of Public Domain. Anyone can reuse, copy or adapt the image for whatever purpose as far as law allows this condition.
  • Copyright by: If you use this license, all rights of use and copying should stay with you and in general no one else can reuse, copy, share, adapt or remix the image.
  • CC by-sa: If you want to keep the copyright but allow other people to reuse, copy, share or adapt your image, please use this license. It lets others remix, adapt, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under identical terms. With this license, that also is used by Wikipedia projects, you support the idea of Commons.

Preferably use photos that do not show people. If the depiction of people is unavoidable, contributors are responsible for making sure that the personal rights of the depicted person is respected. This may entail, but is not limited to, asking the person for their (written) consent or making the person unrecognizable.

Notification of Copyright Infringement
